From the Chairman FY 2019-20

It is my privilege to present to you the Annual Report for the Financial Year 2019-20.

Today, with the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister of a Self Reliant India gaining ground, we are proud to have emerged as one of the leading integrated solutions provider to the dairy industry. Throughout its journey of over three decades, IDMC has remained true to its philosophy of empowering customers with indigenous and cost-effective engineering and packaging solutions.

Animal Husbandry and Dairy Farming form an intrinsic part of the rural economy and serve as an important source of income and employment for farmers. Majority of rural households are engaged in milk production, with a high proportion comprising small and marginal farmers. The Dairy industry in India is both an economic engine and a big source of livelihood for dairy farmers. India is the world’s leading producer and consumer of dairy products. Increasing consumption of dairy products, which are typically rich in protein, is associated with better incomes and nutritional access in a developing country

Dairying is not merely an instrument of technical change, but also economic and social change. It is an instrument which can be used to transform the livelihood of millions of small milk producers and eradicating malnutrition. In India, 14.5% of our population is undernourished and as we move into the third decade of this century, promoting dairying would be the better policy focus area for the county to ensure the health and wealth of our growing population, especially women and children.

Recognising the tremendous potential of the dairy sector, NDDB has been enforcing important initiatives aimed at expanding milk processing infrastructure, improving market access to milk producers, and ensuring milk safety and quality.

The Government of India is focused on modernising the existing milk collection and processing infrastructure and building additional infrastructure to increase the dairy farmers’ income. Increased allocation of funds to the Animal Husbandry and Dairying sector in the Union Budget 2020-21 will strengthen milk procurement and production in the country. Announcement of doubling of milk processing capacity from 53.5 million MT to 108 million MT by 2025 is a welcome move.

Further, the Government announced the creation of Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund worth Rs. 15,000 crore to incentivise dairy processing and cattle feed infrastructure. This is part of the mega Rs. 20 lakh crore package to revive the economy from the Covid-19 pandemic.

IDMC, backed by its project execution and equipment manufacturing capabilities is well positioned to capitalise on the opportunities and supply equipment for modernisation and creation of additional milk processing and chilling infrastructure. IDMC is also putting efforts towards R&D, ramping up design driven thinking and focus on modernisation. It would leverage its advanced manufacturing capabilities and innovative technologies to create the latest dairy infrastructure which would maximise gain, save energies & utilities and lower the cost of operations for the producers.

IDMC has gained a significant market presence in both its Engineering and Packaging businesses. In the farm equipment segment, IDMC’s indigenously developed milking machines are receiving good response from the market and the Company will continue to boost it with rigor. During the year IDMC successfully developed and commercialised a continuous UHT sterilizer having the longest holding time at the sterilization temperature, which is singular in its kind.

IDMC thus consolidates its position as an integrated solutions provider to the dairy industry by assimilating its product and service offerings across the value chain and is poised to meet the present equally well as emerging requirements of its customers.

As part of Corporate Social Responsibility drive, the Company continues to extend support in the key areas of food and nutrition, healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability.

In the coming years, the company would continue to work towards increasing its presence in other segments such as health care, food processing in addition to enhancing its position in the niche dairy segment. I am confident that with vast expertise, strong competencies, innovative capabilities, and talented team, IDMC will be able to seize market opportunities and strengthen India’s dairy value chain.

I take this opportunity to express my appreciation and gratitude to our customers, our business partners, our employees, and our communities for the invaluable support and confidence in us.
